Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company Takes a Hit From a Slumping Economy |

Even though the Harley Davidson Motorcycle company enjoys unparalleled name recognition and amazing customer loyalty, it is not immune from the vagaries of a bad economy. In fact, that's what's happening right now to sales for the Harley Davidson motorcycle and Harley Davidson parts accessories. Sales for Harleys are lower, reflecting a contracting economy and low consumer confidence. According to a recent Associated Press story, " 'While it looks like Harley-Davidson (nyse: HOG - news - people )'s launch of new products in first quarter 2008 was a success, the weak economy could be negatively affecting sales of core Sportster and Touring models,' Felicia Hendrix of Lehman Brothers (nyse: LEH - news - people ) wrote in a note to investors. 'We believe the market is largely pricing in a challenging 2008 model year and that further downside risk from current levels could be related to negative data points from Harley-Davidson Financial Services.' " So it appears that even the might Harley Davidson motorcycle can be hurt by a slumping economic picture. What this means to fans of the Harley Davidson motorcycle remains to be seen.
